2017 Year in Review

What a year it has been for The NextGen Genealogy Network! 2017 has been our most successful year yet and we have made great strides in connecting young genealogists around the world.  Here is a round up of the years best bits!

Faces of NextGen LIVE! is a popular feature hosted by Education Coordinator Eric Wells. He has had many fascinating guests this year including Drew Smith, David Allen Lambert and True A Lewis, but our most watched interview was with Michael D Lacopo:

We launched NextGen In Action – our new initiative that uses the power of social media to showcase young genealogists when they are out in the field.  We have received images of NextGenners at cemeteries, researching at repositories and taking part in genealogy conferences.   We enjoy seeing each month’s submissions, so if you would like to take part, snap a photo of yourself holding the ‘I am NextGen’ sign or wearing some NextGen merchandise (found at our Zazzle store). Then post it any of our social media sites using the hashtag #nextgeninaction, or email us at [email protected]

The NextGen Genealogy Network was featured on Discovering Your Past thanks to an interview with Melanie McComb, a Leadership Team member. Melanie was interviewed by Dan Young of Discovering Your Past at the 2017 New England Regional Genealogical Consortium in Springfield, Massachusetts:

NextGen has hosted several meet ups at genealogy conferences around the country, including meet ups at NERGC 2017 and the Southern California Genealogical Society Jamboree. We plan to host meet ups at more conferences in 2018, so keep an eye out for us!

For the first time, we participated in #GivingTuesday with much success – we received a generous $500 in donations from our supporters.  As NextGen is a volunteer run organization, we rely solely on donations and support from the community.

There is still a little time left before the end of the year and we would love if you would consider a year end donation to our organization.

We have big plans for the new year, including webinars, partnerships with genealogical societies, conference stipdends and much more.  2018 will be our biggest and best year yet!
